Dear Reader, Shrewsbury Book Club is a thriving, welcoming, free book club for literary lovers of all ages. Hosted by our founder, Nadine, SBC has grown from humble beginnings to now meeting three times per month.

You'll find us on the first floor of the cosy Floro Lounge, come rain or shine, where over 200 members join us each month to discuss our book of the month.

SBC's impact is more than just broadening our members’ literary horizons, it is a safe environment where people make friends for life.

The community of SBC extends beyond our monthly meet-ups; you may find us pottery painting, going to the cinema or hosting seasonal parties, author talks and much much more…

Shrewsbury Book Club was created based off a shared love of books, reading and people. Since 2022, it has blossomed into an incredible community, where our members have formed lifelong friendships and travelled through many incredible worlds and stories together.

While we love reading, we love our members more! Every person that joins book club becomes a part of our family - a family that will listen, respect one another and offer a sense of safety. 

We are currently running with our groups and waiting lists at full capacity (over 200 people attending every month!!) and we are in the process of exploring ways to expand so we are able to welcome more book lovers into our community.

Each month our members vote for their Book of the Month (BOTM) on our Whatsapp page. The winning book is announced on social media, and we get reading! Each month we focus on a different theme so we are sure to be entering new worlds and realms of fiction, keeping our discussions and reads different and exciting.

Our members meet at 7pm once a month (depending on the day you book, this will be the same day each month) and our evenings usually last for around 1.5 - 2 hours. During this time, we will chat about any book recommendations we have, share our thoughts on the book of the month and discuss the book in more detail on smaller tables of 4-6.

Then it is time to do it all again for the following month. Each month, members are seated with different people - this ensures diversity in conversations and access to a range of views and opinions.

  • We meet from 6:30pm onwards on the 1st Thursday and the following Monday & Wednesday of every month (unless otherwise specified) with a 7pm start time. We have exclusive access to the upstairs area in Floro Lounge, 46 Pride Hill, Shrewsbury. You do not need to attend every night as all nights are run exactly the same.

  • The Shrewsbury Book Club is free and does not cost anything to join. For anyone wanting to support us financially, we run a raffle at each group, with any profit going towards the running and progression of the club. 

  • We are currently at full capacity and running with a full waiting list, therefore are not accepting any new members at this time. Please keep your eyes peeled on facebook and instagram to find out as and when we will be accepting new members. 


    Once you see that our waiting lists have re-opened, please send us a message on social media stating which day and month you would like to join us for and we will add you to our waiting list and contact you when a space becomes available for your chosen day. At each meet up, members are able to confirm their places for the following month. Then, it is as simple as purchasing and reading the book for that month and joining us at Floro Lounge for a light hearted evening full of laughs and chatter. 


    Please do not turn up without receiving confirmation that your place has been booked. We have over 50 members attend each day and are running a waiting list so will be turning people away if they have not booked in advance. 

  • We have a set rule that if an active member misses 3 book clubs in a row, they will forfeit their spot and those at the top of the waiting list will be offered their space - this is out of fairness for those waiting to attend.

  • It is our members responsibility to purchase the book of the month. We encourage our members to support our local, independent book stores in Shrewsbury before buying from online stores and chains.

  • Yes. We ask all members to try and finish the book before our meet ups as we will be discussing the ending and would like all members to take part in discussions where possible.

  • Book Club takes place at Floro Lounge, Shrewsbury. Floro Lounge is a fully functioning restaurant and we have exclusive access to the upstairs area. Food and soft drinks, hot drinks and alcoholic beverages are all available to purchase throughout the night but at each members own expense. There is however free water available.

  • Not at all. All our members all have different experiences of reading - some are just starting out reading 1 book a month and others will read a number of books a in month - everyone is welcome. This is a safe place for everyone with no judgement.
